• Broadly speaking, we have no particular area of support, believing the school knows best its needs.
• Schools must be members of NAIS.
• Only NAIS schools in the USA or its territories are eligible to apply for funds.
• Grants are made only to initiatives supporting grades 9-12.
• All grants must be matched and must be completed at a minimum of 1:1, in cash, within one year of receiving favorable grant notification.
• There is a three-year waiting period between applications.
• A school head must be in office for at least one full year before we will entertain a grant.
• Proposals from schools with programs for children who learn differently must have a benefit that is transferable.
• We look for replicability by other schools in an effort to stretch our dollars.
• Dynamic proposals requiring consumption of our resources over a three year period are acceptable.
• Endowments established, at least in part, by grants from the Foundation must be able to be tracked in terms of total gift value and current market value. A reasonable yield from such endowments must be used annually for the purpose intended.
• Under Grants to Endowment we believe a school having $20,000 per pupil or more should not seek funds for endowment from us, though matching funds raised to secure a grant may be directed to endowment.
• In addition to schools, applications may be received from state and regional associations directly affiliated with NAIS, NAIS, and a very few other organizations with which the Board has decided to establish a relationship.
