E. E. Ford
With the Edward E. Ford Foundation’s Educational Leadership
Grant, Flintridge Preparatory School will expand its new organizational model
to develop initiatives in cosmopolitan and civic engagement, the “idealab,” and
will spark the entrepreneurial and collaborative creativity of students and
teachers, while providing an administrative design for other schools.
In this model, the Assistant Headship has been
re-fashioned as the “Chief Strategic Officer,” who oversees up to four faculty-driven
initiatives at one time. Currently, our
Nicaragua Initiative, a partnership with two schools and one hospital in
Managua, features student partnerships for international negotiation classes
and community service. Engaging Los
Angeles is a school-wide effort to take full advantage of service and scientific
and cultural opportunities through partnerships with a local public high school
and work with Los Angeles area artists, writers, and the scientists of nearby
Jet Propulsion Lab and Cal Tech.Community
Impact extends a current eighth grade project of measuring the results of community
outreach into all four years of high school. Finally, an adult mentoring program connects all juniors and seniors
with members of our school alumni and parent community who willingly provide
counsel, internships, and job opportunities.
Flintridge Prep places innovation at the heart of the
school culture, using initiatives as models for classroom and campus-wide
activities.
