With the generous support of the E.E. Ford Leadership Grant, Washington International School will organize and host an annual summer institute for local DC-area public, charter, independent and parochial school teachers, starting in 2014. The institute will focus on building a culture of thinking in local schools that aim to educate for global competence. Featured speakers will come from Project Zero, an educational research group at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education; faculty will come from local schools that have been using Project Zero ideas in practice. The work of the institute will continue into the following school year, as participants will collaborate through a network of DC-area Project Zero practitioners and through various online and face-to-face professional development seminars. The institute will award a number of scholarships for participants, as well as fellowships for faculty-in-training.
